Richard Hesketh put in a virtuoso performance hit a chanceless 73* to lead his side to victory in the second staging of the highly anticipated clash between And That’s Lunch and CtCCCC. To call it a single-handed victory would be over-stating things, but he certainly proved the difference between the two sides.
Chasing a score of 173 to win – which most considered to be around ‘par’ – Hesketh played a typically measured innings to secure victory with only three wickets down and 10 balls to spare. With the ball Fairbank was his typically miserly self, returning outstanding figures and Sherwin was also dangerous. Sadly our change bowlers, despite the efforts of a firedup Hammo (who enjoyably let a few fielders know what he thought of their efforts and gave one or two a decent set up), were less economical allowing ATL to build a score. Elsewhere with the bat Cass scored 29 at the top and Sherwin biffed 40ish at the end. Unfortunately, Hesketh was playing for ATL who took the spoils this year to level the series 1-1. We look forward to going again next year - possibly in a forty over game outside of London.

Rain spoiled the long -awaited renewal of rivalries with Zapoi when a thunderstorm - the only rain in weeks - broke over Regents Park with Zapoi 164-3 after 19.3 overs, and the unfortunate Kimmins stranded on 93*. CtC had put in a decent bowling performance with Fairbank undoubtedly the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2-10 from four overs.
Director of Cricket Henry Rudkin confirmed he was keen for a rematch next season. "They had scored a good total, probably slightly over-par, but I think the boys had a chase in them. I heard there were some good beers after and so I'm very keen we make this an annual renewal" CtCCCC were pleased to welcome a back James Lester for his first game of the season and a welcome new addition in Brad Jameson. CtCCCC now sit in second place in the London-South (Wednesday) league - 5 points behind league leaders Bambers Bandits but with two games in hand.
July has seen CtC take 29 points from a maximum of 30 with victories over Bambers Bandits, Platinum Ducks and HCS Wanderers. Hammond and Skinner have both scored two unbeaten fifties, whilst Dillon and Cassels have scored one each. We also welcomed Naseer Dawlatzai to the club who made a very promising debut, scoring 12 runs before being caught on the boundary and bowling four overs of good pace, which was unfortunate to not be rewarded with a wicket. |
